Eine kleine Gruppe von Menschen kämpft in einer postapokalyptischen fernen Zukunft ums Überleben. In einer Welt, die von unwegsamen Wäldern und Dschungeln überwuchert ist, sieht sie sich auch einer mysteriösen Seuche und genetisch mutierten Bestien gegenüber.

Sean Bean spielt die Hauptrolle in diesem packenden Actionfilm unter der Regie von Emmy-Award-Gewinner Mikael Salomon („Band of Brothers“). Sean verkörpert den heroischen Einzelgänger Amal, der um die Geschehnisse und Geheimnisse der Vergangenheit weiß und den Kampf um die Zukunft der Menschheit aufnimmt.

Lost Future ist eine internationale Gemeinschaftsproduktion von RTL mit dem US-amerikanischen Fernsehsender SyFy und der deutschen Produktionsfirma Tandem ("Die Säulen der Erde", "Die Nibelungen"). Neben Sean Bean spielen Sam Claflin ('Die Säulen der Erde", "Pirates of the Caribbean - Fremde Gezeiten") als Kaleb und Annabelle Wallis ("Die Tudors"). Das Budget lag bei über sieben Millionen US-Dollar, gedreht wurde hauptsächlich in Südafrika.

Versteckt in den dichten Wäldern kämpft ein isolierter Stamm ums Überleben. Furchtbare Bestien durchstreifen das Land Savan, gespielt von Corey Sevier ("Der Jazzman", "Smallville"), ist der zukünftige Stammeshäuptling, ein Krieger und hervorragender Kämpfer, der – ebenso wie der Ältestenrat – überzeugt ist, dass sie die einzigen Menschen sind, die in dieser feindlichen Welt überlebt haben. Aber Kaleb (Sam Claflin), ein junger Fährtenleser, hat eine ganz andere Meinung: Kaleb glaubt an die Existenz anderer Stämme und hütet ein altes Artefakt, das ihm sein Vater vor dessen Verschwinden geschenkt hat, wie einen Schatz. Aufgrund ihrer widersprüchlichen Ansichten stehen sich die beiden jungen Stammesangehörigen feindselig gegenüber.

Als das Stammesdorf von den Bestien angegriffen wird, verändert sich alles. Amal (Sean Bean), ein Kämpfer, der sich in den Wäldern versteckt gehalten hatte, muss seine Anwesenheit preisgeben, um Kalebs Leben zu retten. Amal hat Wissen, das der Stamm nicht besitzt, er hat Dinge gesehen – vormals große Städte, die nun in zerfallen Ruinen liegen; andere Stämme, die versteckt in den tiefen Wäldern leben – und er weiß, dass es einst ein Heilmittel gegen die Krankheit gab. Doch erst als aufgedeckt wird, dass Kaleb einzigartige Fähigkeiten besitzt, gibt es neue Hoffnung, dass die menschliche Bevölkerung gerettet werden kann.

Gemeinsam mit Amal, Savan und dessen wunderschöner Freundin Dorel (Annabelle Wallis), brechen die vier zu einem gefährlichen Wettlauf gegen die Zeit, die Bestien und andere Feinde auf…

Lost Future wurde von der für den Emmy und Golden Globe nominierten Produktionsfirma TANDEM COMMUNICATIONS ("Die Säulen der Erde, Die Nibelungen") in Koproduktion mit RTL Television und SyFy Channel (USA) realisiert.

Lost Future ist der erste von drei Filmen für TANDEMs neues Action Pack(ed) Genre Label, das actionreiche Abenteuer Event-Progamme für den internationalen Markt bietet. “Lost Future ist der ideale Auftakt zu unserem neuen Action Pack(ed) Label”, sagt Jonas Bauer. “Es ist ein Action-Abenteuer mit einer spannenden und überraschenden Story, die sich als sehr vielschichtig erweist. Gerade wenn das Publikum denkt es wüsste was passiert, kommt eine völlig überraschende Wendung, die dem Zuschauer die Sprache verschlagen wird. Wir sind begeistert darüber, RTL Television und SyFy Channel als Partner gewonnen zu haben.“

Der Film wurde im März/April 2010 an Schauplätzen in Südafrika gedreht. Nachdem er sich auch mögliche Drehorte in Kanada, Neuseeland und Osteuropa angesehen hatte, fiel Producer Moritz Polter die Entscheidung für Südafrika leicht, denn am Kap fand er alles in allem sehr gute Drehbedingungen vor bei relativ günstigen Produktionskosten.

"Ich finde es auch gut, dass der Film eine Botschaft hat: dass die Menschen für blinde Technologiegläubigkeit bestraft werden, dass sich die Natur wehrt", so Sevier zur dpa.

Ausführende Produzenten sind Jonas Bauer, Rola Bauer und Tim Halkin zusammen mit den Co-Produzenten David Wicht ("Poseidon") und Vlokkie Gordon ("The Breed") von Film Afrika Worldwide sowie Produzent Moritz Polter. Für die Besetzung ist Priscilla John ("Mamma Mia", "Die Säulen der Erde") verantwortlich.

Und das sagen wir: Da der Film ja schon im amerikanischen SyFy-Channel gelaufen ist, konnten wir bereits einige Meinungen unserer amerikanischen Bean-Freunde hören. Tendenz: Überdurchschnittlich für einen Sci-Fi-Film, sowohl von der Ausstattung als auch von den schauspielerischen Leistungen her. Sean glänzt wieder einmal und "lebt" seine Rolle. Ja, er reitet - und schreitet, so wie nur er das kann! Fazit: Sehenswert, auf alle Fälle anschauen.

Nach aktueller Auskunft von RTL wird Lost Future auch im Programm von RTL laufen, allerdings steht noch kein Ausstrahlungstermin fest, der kann möglicherweise auch erst nach der DVD/BluRay-Veröffentlichung liegen.

"Die Nibelungen" produziert - einen Film, den ich mochte - und im Moment sind sie in der Post-Produktion von "Die Säulen der Erde", nach einem Buch, von dem, denke ich mal, schon jeder gehört hat :-)

Man kann sagen, dass ich ein Fan von Ridley Scott bin, einem Regisseur und Produzenten dessen Filme - ganz abgesehen davon dass sie einen zum Nachdenken bringen und sehr gut gemacht sind - immer ein Fest für die Augen sind (und dass sagt bei einem Medium das in erster Linie ein visuelles ist, meiner Meinung nach eine Menge aus).

Alles in allem gibt es also viel, das für Tandem Communications spricht und ich denke wir können mit The Lost Future einen action-reichen Film mit hohen Standards erwarten. Mit einem Budget von 5,2 Mio Euro, was sehr hoch für einen Fernsehfilm ist, einem oscar-nominierten Emmy-Preisträger als Regisseur (Mikael Salomon) und - natürlich - einer Schauspielerriege, die vom unvergleichlichen Sean Bean angeführt wird!

Und von dem allen mal abgesehen hat Tandem Communications seinen Sitz in - München... Do hamma's - wie der Bayer als solcher zu sagen pflegt....

The Lost Future is (co-)produced by German company Tandem Communications GmbH for German TV-station RTL and the US SyFy-channel.

On their website www.tandemcom.de (available also in English) you can see a variety of productions they did in the past and also their ongoing film-work. As I see, they had done "Die Nibelungen" (Ring of he Nibelungs) - a film I liked and they are also at the moment in post-production of the TV-Series "The Pillars of the Earth" - after a book, I think, everybody knows :-).

"Pillars of the Earth" is in co-production with Scott-Films, and this is what Ridley Scott says about the work:

"The Pillars of the Earth is the second time my company has collaborated with Tandem and I hope we find more projects with them in the future as our two companies are very complimentary. Tandem's principals have demonstrated to me a dedication to high-end, television fiction and that they will stop at nothing to get a good project financed and produced - even in the middle of a world recession. Now, you can say, that I am a fan of Ridley Scott, a director and producer who's films - apart from being thought provoking and very well made - are always a feast for the eye (and with a medium that is at first a visual one that says a lot, imo)

So, all in all, a lot speaks for Tandem Communications and I think we can await with The Lost Future an action-packed film of high standards. With a budget of 7 million US Dollars, which is at the upper ranks for a TV-production, an Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning director (Mikael Salomon) and - of course - with a cast led by the incomparable Sean Bean!

And apart from all that Tandem Communications company seat is in - Munich, Bavaria... Do hamma's - as the Bavarian might say...

DIE GESCHICHTE:

Männer auf der Jagd.

Und es geht um alles. Leben oder Tod. Völlerei oder Hunger.

Aber während wir uns durch den alten urzeitlichen Wald bewegen, mit den primitiven, in Tierhäute gekleideten Jägern auf der Spur der Beute bleiben, bemerken wir, daß sich einige Dinge nie ändern ... die Spannungen zwischen Männern.

Der Stammeshäuptling Uri ist verantwortlich für die Jagd, doch er ist ein umsichtiger Führer.

Sein heranwachsender Sohn Savan ist überzeugt, daß er die Sache viel besser machen würde. Er besitzt die Arroganz der Jugend und es juckt ihn, die Macht in seine Hände zu bekommen.

Und dann gibt es da noch Kaleb, im selben Alter, aber ansonsten das pure Gegenteil von Savan. Kaleb ist ein Denker, Savan ein Krieger; Kalebs Waffe ist sein Verstand, die von Savan sein Speer. Da sie so verschieden sind, hassen sich Savan und Kaleb.

Und genau wegen ihrer Unterschiedlichkeit sind beide so wichtig für den Erfolg der Jagd. Als das primitive Großfaultier zur Strecke gebracht und aufgebrochen wird, fühlen die Männer das blutige Glücksgefühl, daß nur Jäger fühlen können. Aber die Freude währt nur kurz ...

Die Jäger werden angegriffen. Nicht von einem wilden Tier des Waldes, sondern von “Den Bestien”. Männern, die zu entsetzlichen blutdürstigen Wilden mutiert sind.

Nun beginnen wir langsam zu verstehen welch eine Angstwolke über den Jägern hängt. Ihr ganzes Leben haben sie versucht sich im Dunkel des Waldes zu verstecken, denn ein Biß von einer der Bestien genügt und das Opfer mutiert ebenfalls. Menschen verwandeln sich in Bestien.

Ganz offensichtlich hält diese Vergangenheit in der wir uns befinden, einige unangenehme Überraschungen parat.
Die Jäger kehren so schnell wie möglich zu ihren Stamm zurück, der sich im Schatten der Schwarzen Klippe verborgen hält. Sie geben Alarm und drängen ihre Familien ihre bescheidenen Besitztümer zu packen und in ein sicheres Versteck zu fliehen.

Aber die Stammesältesten haben andere Vorstellungen. Sie kontrollieren den Stamm mit einer strengen, fundamentalistischen Inbrunst. Die Ältesten sind die Hüter von Wahrheit und Weisheit, und sie verfügen dass vor den Bestien nicht geflohen wird. Statt dessen sollen sie zu Gott für Hilfe und Befreiung beten. Diese Entscheidung macht Savan und Kaleb wütend, aber ihre Einsprüche bleiben unbeachtet.

Und dann ist es zu spät.

In der Mitte der Nacht wird der "Stamm der Schwarzen Klippe" von einer Horde brutaler Bestien angegriffen.
Die Frauen, Kinder und die Alten versuchen die Sicherheit der Höhlen zu erreichen, aber viele werden vorher niedergemetzelt. Uri, Savan, Kaleb und die anderen Jäger kämpfen tapfer gegen die Bestien, aber sie sind der bösartigen Wildheit der Mutanten nicht gewachsen.

Am Morgen sind die meisten Stammesmitglieder, darunter auch ihr Oberhaupt tot. Einige sind in den Höhlen gefangen, nur durch eine Holztür vor den blutrünstigen Bestien geschützt. Aber drei schaffen es, zu entkommen: Kaleb, Savan und die wunderschöne Dorel (bald die Frau von Savan). Die Lage scheint aussichtslos. Wie können diese drei Jugendlichen ihren Stamm retten?

Aber dann tut Kaleb etwas Unerwartetes. Er geht zu einem Versteck im Unterholz und entdeckt ... ein Buch.
Nun ramponiert und zerfleddert, wurden doch seine farbfrohen Seiten im 21. Jahrhundert dazu benutzt, Schulkindern das Lesen beizubringen.

Auf einmal wendet sich die ganze Geschichte. Offensichtlich sind wir nicht 10 000 Jahre vor unserer Zeitrechnung, sondern wir sind einige Jahrhunderte in der Zukunft. Und etwas wirklich Katastrophales ist dieser Welt, der Zivilisation und den Menschen passiert. Aber was?

Die Suche nach Antworten wird den Film vorwärtstreiben ...

SETUP:

Men are hunting. And it is a serious business. Life or death. Feast or famine. But as we move through the ancient, primeval forest, tracking our prey with the primitive, animal skin-clad hunters, we realise that some things never change ... the tensions between men.

The tribal Chief, Uri, is in charge of the hunt, but he is a cautious leader. Uri's teenage son, Savan is convinced that he could do a better job. He has all the arrogance of youth and is itching to get his hands on power. And then there's Kaleb, also a teenager, but opposite in every way to Savan. Kaleb is a thinker, Savan a warrior; Kaleb's weapon is his intellect, Savan's a spear.

Because they are such opposites, Savan and Kaleb hate each other. And it's precisely because they are so different that both are so vital to the success of the hunt. As the primitive Giant Sloth is brought down and cut up, the men feel the bloody euphoria that only a hunter can feel. But the moment is short lived ... The hunters are attacked. Not by a wild forest animal, but "The Beasts". Men who have been horribly mutated into bloodthirsty savages.

And now we start to understand the cloud of fear that hangs over the hunters. All their lives they have tried to stay hidden deep in the forest, because one bite from a Beast and the victim undergoes the same mutation. Humans turn into Beasts. Clearly whatever past we are in has some nasty surprises in store. The hunters run back to their Tribe, huddled in the shadow of the Black Cliff. They raise the alarm and urge their people to pack their meagre belongings and flee to safer ground.

But the tribal Elders have other ideas. They control the Tribe with a strict, fundamentalist zeal. The Elders are the guardians of truth and wisdom, and they decree that there will be no running from the Beasts. Instead they must pray for God's help and deliverance. The decision infuriates Savan and Kaleb, but their objections go unheeded.

And then it's too late. In the middle of the night, a violent horde of Beasts attack the Black Cliff Tribe. The women, children and Elders try to make it to the safety of the caves, but many are butchered before they get there. Uri, Savan, Kaleb and the other hunters battle bravely against the Beasts, but are no match for the wild savagery of the mutants. By dawn, most of the Tribe, including their Chief are dead. A few people are trapped inside the caves with only a timber door keeping out the bloodthirsty Beasts. But three manage to get away: Kaleb, Savan, and the beautiful Dorel (soon to be Savan's wife.) The situation seems hopeless. How can these three teenagers save their Tribe? And then Kaleb does something extraordinary. He goes to a hiding place in the forest and uncovers ... a book. Battered and fragile, its colourful pages were once used to teach 21st century schoolchildren to read.

Suddenly the whole drama spins round. Clearly we are not 10,000 years BC, we are several centuries in the future. And something truly catastrophic has happened to the world, to civilisation, to mankind. But what? The quest for answers will drive the entire film forward ...

The Lost Future is the latest big-budget TV movie produced by German production company and distributor Tandem Communications.

The post-apocalyptic story follows a band of hunters fighting for survival in the year 2510 in a world of jungle and trackless forests.

The movie stars The Lord of the Rings' Sean Bean and has a budget of US$7 million.

Rola Bauer, managing director of Tandem Communications and executive producer of the movie, says that it is the story of getting to the disaster and aftermath as well as the analysis of a post-apoalyptic world.

"On one hand we do big books from authors such as Patricia Cornwell and The Pillars of the Earth, but we also like to do fantasy adventure stories," she says.

The movie has been coproduced in association with South African producer Film Afrika Worldwide and will air on US cable network SyFy and German free-to-air commercial broadcaster RTL.

RTL dreht "Lost Future" in Südafrika

Kapstadt (dpa) - Die Erwartungen für diesen "post-apokalyptischen" Actionfilm sind hochgesteckt: "Für uns ist er das Flaggschiff einer neuen Serie von zumindest drei solchen Filmen", sagt Produzent Moritz Polter von der Münchner Produktionsfirma Tandem Communications über die internationale Co-Produktion "The Lost Future".

Der 5,2 Millionen Euro teure TV-Film, der in diesen Wochen in Südafrika gedreht wird, "wird das Niveau von Kinofilmen haben", betont er. Denn nicht nur RTL (Deutschland) und der SyFy Channel (USA), sondern Sender in aller Welt sollen den futuristischen Streifen ausstrahlen. Also wurde ein internationales Starensemble engagiert, unter ihnen Sean Bean ("Der Herr der Ringe"), Eleanor Tomlinson ("Alice im Wunderland"), Sam Claflin ("Säulen der Erde") und Annabelle Wallis ("Die Tudors").

"Das wichtigste Ziel für mich ist es, dass der Film unterhält und spannend ist, nie langweilig wird", betont US-Regisseur Mikael Salomon, Emmy-Preisträger und mehrfacher Oscar-Kandidat. Er betrete mit dem futuristischen Genre "Neuland, und das ist auch für mich eine Herausforderung". "The Lost Future" ist die Geschichte eines kleinen Stammes von Jägern, die im Jahr 2510 - nach dem Zusammenbruch der menschlichen Zivilisation - in der Wildnis leben und mit furchterregenden Bestien und tödlichen Krankheiten kämpfen müssen. "Es ist ein aufregender Film, es macht eine Menge Spaß, aber richtig hart ist für mich der körperliche Einsatz, der hier beim Drehen gefordert wird", meinte Corey Sevier etwas atemlos in einer Drehpause in der trostlosen, öden Berglandschaft in der Nähe des Sir Lowry's Pass nördlich von Kapstadt. Der kanadische Filmschauspieler ("Der Jazzman") spielt den künftigen Stammeshäuptling Savan, den die Frage quält, ob sie wirklich die einzigen Menschen auf der Welt sind, wie die Ältesten sagen, oder ob es vielleicht doch andere Menschen gibt - und ob eine Chance zum Überleben besteht. "Ich finde es auch gut, dass der Film eine Botschaft hat: dass die Menschen für blinde Technologiegläubigkeit bestraft werden, dass sich die Natur wehrt".

Auch seine Partnerin Annabelle Wallis quält sich etwas mit den zahlreichen Actionszenen: "Der körperliche Einsatz ist enorm, glücklicherweise habe ich mich gut vorbereitet", sagte die eher zierliche, bildschöne Schauspielerin aus London. Sie finde es faszinierend, dass der Film in dieser Ecke Afrikas gedreht werde, es falle ihr hier besonders leicht, sich in das Gefühl der Verlorenheit dieses letzten Häufleins Menschen hineinzuversetzen.

Für Produzent Polter fiel die Entscheidung für Südafrika - nachdem er sich auch mögliche Drehorte in Kanada, Neuseeland und Osteuropa angesehen hatte - leicht: Hier am Kap gebe es alles in allem sehr gute Drehbedingungen, obwohl die Produktionskosten rund 30 Prozent niedriger als anderswo lägen. Mit 5,2 Millionen Euro befindet sich der Etat ohnehin am oberen Ende von TV-Produktionen. Für den ambitionierten Regisseur Salomon nicht unbedingt genug: "Das Schwierigste ist, mit der begrenzten Zeit und dem begrenzten Etat auszukommen", meinte er lachend - wohlwissend, dass Regisseure dieses Gefühl fast immer beim Filmemachen haben.

German, US nets look to the Future
Cameras are rolling on The Lost Future, a US$7m telefilm starring Sean Bean (Lord of the Rings, Troy) and Sam Claflin (The Pillars of the Earth) and uniting networks in Germany and the US.

The commissioning broadcasters are RTL Television of Germany and US cable network Syfy, with production taking place in South Africa via Munich-based Tandem Communications and Film Afrika Worldwide.

The film is directed by Emmy-winner Mikael Salomon (Band of Brothers, The Company), with exec production handled by Jonas Bauer (Impact), Rola Bauer (The Pillars of the Earth) and Tim Halkin (Lost City Raiders). David Wicht (The Poseidon Adventure) and Vlokkie Gordon (The Breed) are coproducers and Moritz Polter (Impact) is the producer.

Rounding out the cast are Annabelle Wallis (The Tudors, Ghost Town), Eleanor Tomlinson (Alice in Wonderland, The Sarah Jane Adventures) and Corey Sevier (The Jazzman, Smallville).

The Lost Future is a post-apocalyptic story set in a world where forests and jungles have reclaimed the Earth. Bean plays the leader of a bunch hunters who face various beasts and mysterious diseases. VMMa, an independent broadcaster covering Dutch-speaking Belgium, has already acquired the film.

MUNICH: Tandem Communications has begun principal photography on its newest movie, The Lost Future, for commissioning broadcasters RTL Television of Germany and Syfy in the U.S.

Budged at $7 million, The Lost Future is shooting on location in South Africa.

The film is set in the year 2510, telling a post-apocalyptic story about a band of hunters who fight for survival in a landscape overrun by terrible beasts and by the specter of a mysterious and deadly illness. The Lost Future is the first of three productions from Tandem's newly created Action Pack(ed) genre label of event action-adventure programming.

"The Lost Future is the ideal first title of our new Action Pack(ed) label," said Jonas Bauer, a partner at Tandem. "It's an action/adventure with an exciting and surprising story that unfolds in many layers. Just when the audience thinks they know what's happening, they'll be thrown for a loop.
